Aufguss Foundations is the complete foundational education pathway of Aufguss Roots USA, combining Aufguss Basics and Waving Basics Level 1 into one immersive training experience.

Across two consecutive 2.5-day courses, participants develop both the knowledge required to understand and conduct an intentional Aufguss and the practical waving skills needed to control airflow, distribute heat, and shape the guest experience.

Aufguss Basics

The first course establishes the cultural, theoretical, and practical foundations of professional Aufguss.

Participants explore:

• Sauna and Aufguss history, terminology, culture, and etiquette
• The role and responsibilities of the Sauna Master
• Heat, humidity, hydration, cooling, and guest awareness
• Aufguss preparation, organization, and presentation
• Water application and progressive heat-building
• Essential oils, botanicals, teas, and intentional aroma selection
• Ritual structure, pacing, communication, and guest care
• Introductory functional waving
• Preparing and conducting a complete Basic Aufguss

Waving Basics Level 1

The second course develops the practical towel and airflow skills used in professional Aufguss.

Participants work on:

• Fundamental towel handling and control
• Effective air movement and distribution
• Positioning and body mechanics
• Core waving techniques
• Transitions between movements
• Developing consistency, control, and flow
• Applying waving techniques within an Aufguss
• Practical exercises with instructor guidance and feedback

The Complete Foundation

Taken together, Aufguss Basics + Waving Basics Level 1 provide the complete Aufguss Foundations experience.

The pathway is designed to connect cultural understanding of both traditional and modern Sauna experiences, aroma, heat management, guest care, ritual structure, and functional waving into one coherent foundation for continued Aufguss education.
